On Gay Marriage

May 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We had a debate today in my history class about the recent decision to legalize same sex marriage in California. It was intense, it got personal too. I’m going to guess every classroom has the hardcore conservative Republican (who acts more like a Nazi, and whose arguments are retarded and hollow) and the hardcore liberal Democrat who sometimes resembles a romantic hippie. Suddenly, someone’s mom was being called a lesbian, and someone’s brain was compared to poop.

The only argument that the anti gay marriage people have is: “It’s not natural.” Well sorry people, but homosexuality may be related to genetics or past experience like abuse.. If genetics are true, then it’s like saying that two people with butt chins (which is actually a genetic mutation) cannot marry.

I do not understand why people make such a fuss about gay marriage. I mean name something that gay marriage will hurt people, other than their over swelled ego. Does gay marriage hurt California’s in any way shape or form that is nor personal??? Does it add to corruption, raises inflation, hurt the stock market?

Another one, “All men and women are created equal.” That famous statement does not specifically say that men have to like women and that women have to like men to be equal.

“Oh not gay people can marry now, I think I may die frome hurtego-itis.” Other than personally I don’t see how gay marriage affects people. Oh right, what about religious beliefs? I almost forgot…wait separation of church and state?

I don’t want to dive into religion, but for all you devout church goers (don’t get me wrong I’m a Catholic) here’s a little thought. If you are truly as devout as you say you are, then you believe everything in this Earth was created by or meant to be by God right? Well “everything” includes gays. Furthermore, Jesus taught people to love each other, even if they were an enemy (Samartian story ring a bell?). Yeah, love and respect the rights of the people around you.

Intelligent Design: What the Bleep?

January 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So I have to do this debate on Evolution and the Origin of Life for my Biology IB class. I seriously thought that pretty much everyone in the class was going to stick to good ol’ Darwin and just change the origin of life argument. Apparently not, someone has decided to bring in Intelligent Design. I just don’t understand why ID actually has followers.

Let me get this straight, ID people, you believe that pure chance is not capable of creating the diversity we have today, but you fail to take into account time. It’s possible that the elements combined and recombined, and we are the one time they actually got the combination. Time explains it.

Another argument: the complexity of the human body cannot be recreated, not even in a lab. Well yeah, I mean it took millions of years for us to get this way. Do you think you are really capable to replicate the human body in a lab in less time? besides, you have to take into account all the factors that were present at the time, which are a lot by the way. Ther are two many variables to take into acount, but once again time explains it.

all right so Intelligent Design, so who designed it. Well of course God! Now now, we all like to blame the big guy, but don’t use him as a tool to fill

in the holes in the theory.

For God’s sake, [sorry] even the Catholic Church accepts evolution.

Let me get this straight again, so ID goes against the theory of evolution. In other words it goes against the fossil record, many many pages of research, homologous structures, hox genes, and the poor Finches of the Galapagos Islands.

Let’s assume for a moment, that yes ID is true. How are the similarities in the DNA [which is by the way universal, at least in this planet] then explained? Pure chance?

I’d just like to know, what does ID have in its favor? At least, in comparison to Evolution.
